Morgan County drowning victim revived on way to hospital

OAKDALE (WATE) – A man nearly drowned Sunday afternoon in the Emory River in Morgan County, but was revived on the way to the hospital.

Morgan County Lt. Paul Hargis said around 5:20 p.m., Carl Ooten, 50, jumped into Borton Hole on Deermont Road in the Oakdale area. Witnesses said he had been swimming for a while, came up to breathe, and then didn’t resurface.

Hargis said Ooten was underwater for around 10 minutes. When rescue crews pulled him out, they started CPR immediately and continued CPR until they got to Roane Medical Center. When they arrived, he had a pulse.

No information on his condition is currently available.
