I-75 pursuit in Knox County ends in crash

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Tennessee Highway Patrol said a traffic stop for speeding ended in a pursuit and crash Tuesday afternoon.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said around 12:45 p.m. trooper noticed a Ford Mustang on Interstate 640 going 81 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, later determined to be driven by Stephanie Haynes, 30. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle at the 108 mile marker on I-75. The vehicle stopped for a moment, but merged back onto the interstate as the trooper was getting out of his vehicle.

The trooper began pursuing Haynes’ vehicle. She exited I-75 at Merchant Drive and tried to turn right on red without yielding. The Mustang hit a pickup truck and kept going. No one was hurt.

Haynes turned onto Central Avenue Pike and kept going toward Broadway. At the intersection of Dutch Valley Road and Old Broadway, Haynes failed to stop and hit another pickup truck pulling a trailer. No one was hurt in that crash either.

Haynes got out of the car and ran off. Troopers eventually caught up to her and arrested her. She is charged with evading arrest, driving on a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident.
