Woman’s deadly shooting in Knoxville declared justifiable

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Police say the shooting death of a woman who was trying to force her way into a Knoxville home early Friday morning was justified.

Police were called to 3305 McKamey Road around 5:37 a.m. where they found Stacie Mundy, 38, lying on the ground with at least one gunshot wound. She was taken to UT Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The Knoxville Police Department says according to their investigation, Mundy was forcing her way into the home when the male homeowner shot her in self defense. Police say she was known by at least one other resident in the house at the time.

The homeowner and several others were taken to the Safety Building and interviewed. After a review of the case with the District Attorney General’s Office, it was determined the shooting appears to be a justifiable homicide and charges will not be filed.
