DANDRIDGE (WATE) – Two Jefferson County inmates who escaped early Friday were captured after a police pursuit in Northern Georgia Friday night.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says Matthew Robert Porter, 27, and Adam Quinn Lethco, 24, were caught in Whitfield County, Georgia, after a chase in a vehicle stolen from Sevierville. They were among four inmates who had escaped early Friday morning. Two were caught shortly thereafter.

The Sevierville Police Department said Porter and Lethco are also suspects in an attempted armed robbery at 5 a.m. Friday at the EZ-Stop at 851 Dolly Parton Parkway. Extra officers were at schools in Sevierville Friday as a precaution.

Investigators say a deputy was treating Lethco for a hand injury at the Jefferson County Work House in Dandridge around 12:15 a.m. When deputies left the cell, four inmates assaulted them and took the keys to the deputies’ vehicle. Sevierville police say there was a gun inside the vehicle.

A volunteer fireman saw the black 1982 Chevy on Highway 411. The vehicle was abandon on Walnut Grove Road in Sevierville. Sevier County deputies found one of the inmates, Jimmy Moore, 22, and took him into custody. Around 3:45 a.m., deputies found Richard Lorenz, 26. Both inmates are being held at Jefferson County Jail and face charges for aggravated assault on an officer and escape.
