Former Knox County teacher charged with raping child

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A former Knox County teacher was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges of rape of a child.

Michael Wayne Warwick, 56, was taken into custody just before 1 p.m. on a grand jury presentment that included rape of a child, aggravated sexual battery, sexual activity involving a minor, rape, statutory rape by an authority figure and sexual battery by an authority figure.

A Knox County Schools spokesperson says Warwick was at one time employed as a teacher at West High School.

Warwick will be held in the detention facility on $100,000 bond. The case was handled by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office Family Crisis Unit.
