GATLINBURG (WATE) – The American Red Cross of East Tennessee partnered Thursday with WATE 6 On Your Side and other Knoxville media outlets for a phone bank, raising a total of $270,000 for Gatlinburg wildfire relief.
The event was a coordinated effort between local TV and radio stations to help the Red Cross get the support it needs. Red Cross volunteers are the boots on the ground after a disaster and will continue to support evacuees as long as necessary.

Red Cross expects to shelter wildfire evacuees for at least two weeks and they need monetary donations. Physical donations have been plentiful, but many times they will end up with an abundance of one item and not enough of another, so cash will allow them to purchase exactly what the evacuees need.
Those wishing to donate can still call (865) 862-3519 during normal business hours, go online to www.redcross.org or text REDCROSS to 90999 to give a $10 donation. A donation of $10 provides a hot meal to one person; $20 provides a blanket, meal, snack and comfort kit; $50 provides a full day of food and shelter for one person; and $150 provides travel, meals ans shelter for a day for a Red Cross disaster relief worker.
