Portions of Vonore, Tellico Plains evacuated for fire

TELLICO PLAINS (WATE) – Monroe County Dispatch said there are mandatory evacuations in the Tellico Plains and Vonore areas due to fires.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said there was a fire in the area of Plainsview¬†Apartments in Tellico. Deputies said the fire is under control, but the apartments were evacuated.

The Tellico Plains Community Center was the set up as an evacuation center for those evacuated. However, only a few areas were evacuated.

Monroe County Emergency Management Agency says the fires are contained at this point. Monroe County EMA says a total of 10 people were in the Tellico Plains area and only one house was a total loss.

There were a total of six fires in Monroe County, Monday evening. One fire in the Turkey Creek area reached up to a total of 50-60 acres.

No injuries were reported during these fires.
