No major damage at Sevier County schools; classes cancelled Wednesday

GATLINBURG (WATE) – A Sevier County Schools spokesperson says a couple of buildings had minor damage, but none were destroyed in the wildfires. There will be no school on Wednesday.

Dr. Debra Cline reports some wind damage to a roof at Wearwood Elementary School in Wears Valley and some minor wind and smoke damage at Pi Beta Phi Elementary School in the heart of Gatinburg. A crew is in place at Wearwood cleaning up four classrooms. Window repairs and smoke cleanup will happen as soon as it is safe for crews to re-enter the building.

No damage was reported at Pittman Center Elementary School or Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. A pump house at Greenbrier Alternative School had minor damage.
