KNOXVILLE (WATE) – There is no doubt Christmas has arrived in Downtown Knoxville.
The Hill family spent Friday morning ice skating in the Market Square ice rink. Jinny Hill and her two sons were the first to hit the ice.
“We are season pass holders one, two and three for the fourth year running,” said Jinny Hill. “The boys were little when we lived downtown, so they learned how to skate on ice. This has become an annual tradition to be here on the first day and be the first ones on the ice.”
Last year for the rink’s 10th anniversary, Knoxville Special Events decided to not use a tent in order to give the ice rink a “Rockefeller Center” type feel. This year, they’ve also added glass walls and new skates for the rink.
“It’s been nice to watch it grow over the last several years,” said Jinny Hill. “They’ve tried to make it a little better each and every year.”
Even though the Hill family has moved away from Knoxville, they still come back each year to celebrate their family tradition.
“It’s just a little fun thing to do and I think it’s just a really great way to celebrate winter,” said Jimmy Hill’s son, Max.
