Knoxville (WATE) – Though junior defensive end Derek Barnett has played his final game at Neyland for 2016, he still has one home game left.
The Nashville native was a standout at Brentwood Academy, and will be back at home next Saturday when Tennessee (8-3, 4-3 SEC) closes their regular season against Vanderbilt (5-6, 2-3 SEC) at 7:30 PM EST.
Barnett’s sack against Missouri over the weekend gave him a single season career high of 11, and 31 for his career with the Vols. That puts him just one behind the Hall of Fame’s Reggie White, who recorded 32 sacks with Tennessee from 1980 to 1983.
Though Barnett admitted it would be great to reach the milestone Saturday at Vanderbilt Stadium, his primary concern is winning, and if a victory comes without his 32nd career sack, that’s just fine by him also.
