DRONE VIDEO: Brush fire burns in Walland

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Drone video taken over the wildfire burning near Walland Elementary School in Blount County shows the scope and intensity of the flames as firefighters work to contain the fire.

Walland Elementary School closed early Friday and will be closed Friday as a result of the fire. Crews said on Thursday that the fire has spread to more than 150 acres.

Alex Widmer and Hot Rods Photography shared overhead drone video of the fire with WATE 6 On Your Side. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture wants to remind people it is illegal to fly a drone near a wildfire. They say drones flying in wildfire areas can cause aerial firefighting equipment to be grounded, which can cause the fire to increase and endanger firefighters. Flying a drone near wildfire can result in a significant fine and/or a mandatory court appearance.
