NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Country singer Crystal Gayle was surprised during her performance at the Opry Tuesday night.
About halfway through Gayle’s performance, Carrie Underwood joined her on stage to sing her 1977 hit “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.”
But Gayle had no idea Underwood was about to invite her to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
After Underwood spoke words of praise, she extended the official invite to join the Opry family.
“You’re amazing, and you are beautiful, and you are incredibly talented, and just an inspiration to so many of us,” Underwood said.
After she was invited to be inducted, Gayle said, “I would love it!”
“I always felt like I was a member of the family, and this is just so special. Thank you!” she added.
After the show, she told media the night was just wonderful, and the invitation to join the Opry family was icing on the cake.
Gayle, one of Loretta Lynn’s younger siblings, has garnered six certified gold albums and 20 No. 1 country hits through her career.
