Knoxville (WATE) – If home games this season look anything like Sunday’s home opener, Tennessee fans will have a ton to cheer for this season.
The Lady Vols (2-0) shot a blistering 86% from three-point range as Tennessee raced past Navy (0-2) 85-55 on Sunday.
Junior Alexa Middleton netted a career high 21 points on 7-11 from the field, including 6-of-7 beyond the arc.
“That’s a result of her getting in the gym and getting the hours and putting in the reps,” head coach Holly Warlick said.
“It just comes from getting in extra reps, a lot of practice,” said Middleton. “We trust each other and so I think it just comes from trust and confidence in each other.”
The threes rained in at an efficiently prolific clip, as the Lady Vols hit 12 of 14 from long distance.
Mercedes Russell opened the season with her second consecutive double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds), while Diamond DeShields added 14 points and Jordan Reynolds played the floor general en route to 12 points and 7 assists.
Tennessee embarks on a three-game road swing Tuesday when they travel to Johnson City Tuesday night to face ETSU (1-0).
