2 Knoxville residents dead after Illionis crash, 3 injured

MOUNT VERNON (WATE) – Two Knoxville residents are dead and three others were injured after a crash in Jefferson County, Illinois last week.

Illinois State Police says Knoxville resident Clifford Foster, 44, was driving a 2010 Infiniti QX56 SUV on Interstate-57 northbound near mile marker 85 on November 2. Foster swerved the SUV left to avoid a deer standing in the road. The SUV struck a guardrail, according to the report. Then the vehicle cross the northbound lanes and struck the right guardrail before traveling across the lanes again and overturning. The SUV stopped in the median near the southbound guardrail.

Foster, Shala L. Martin,33, of Maryville, and Shawn M. Martin,29, of Wichita, Kansas, were transported to a hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Knoxville residents Kimberly S. Martin,33, and Sherrie R. Webber,31, were pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
