KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville police are investigating after a teen was shot at a West Knoxville apartment complex.
The shooting was reported around 3:24 p.m. at Sutherland Glen Apartments off Sutherland Avenue. The Knoxville Police Department says four men traveled to the apartment complex to sell marijuana to a resident. While preparing to make the drug deal, two men from the same apartment pulled a handgun and robbed the drug dealer of his drugs and money.
The dealer was able to run off, but while while running to his vehicle, he yelled to his friends in the car that he had just been robbed. All four men were walking back toward the apartment when three suspects came around the corner and started shooting.
A 17-year-old boy was hit one time. He was taken to UT Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.
Investigators have interviewed several people and are examining evidence from the scene.
Witnesses said they heard at least five shots, one of which entered one of the apartments. No one else was injured.
