KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Boys and Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley celebrated the grand opening Monday of a new teen center in Knoxville.
Construction of the building began last year. The president of the organization says they expect the new facility to serve as not only a safe haven for kids in the community, but also as an opportunity to teach kids valuable life skills.
“Well, you’ve got a 54,000 square foot multi-use facility. Obviously, we’ve got some Boys and Girls Club staples with gymnasiums – two of them – that are state of the art, a Junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, but also as our programming has evolved with the needs of kids, the facility also has space for workforce development,” said President and CEO Bart McFadden.
The Boys and Girls Club says they are striving to reach the more than 43,000 kids in East Tennessee.
