Former Sevier County jail worker arrested in conspiracy to bring in contraband

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – A former Sevier County Jail civilian food service employee has been arrested in connection with a conspiracy to bring contraband into the jail.

The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office says Samuel M. Maney, 54, along with two inmates and the mother of one of the inmates were part of the conspiracy to bring narcotics, electronic equipment. Maney resigned his position during the investigation.

The inmates, Dustin White, 30; and Jerry Metcalf, 22; were already incarcerated on other charges. Metcalf’s mother, Sherry Metcalf, 47, was also arrested in the investigation.

Maney was indicted for criminal conspiracy and official misconduct. He was released on $7,500 bond. The other three were each charged with criminal conspiracy, possession of scheduled narcotics and introducing contraband into a penal facility.
