Christmas tree lighting kicks off holiday season in downtown Knoxville

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Christmas season is kicking off soon in Knoxville and will begin the day after Thanksgiving with the opening of the Market Square ice rink.

Holidays on Ice presented by Home Federal Bank begins on Friday, November 25, and runs through January 8. The rink is open seven days a week during this time admission for adults is $10 and for children is $7. Season passes are $45 and $30 respectively. Admission includes skate rental.

Businesses in Knoxville will be decked in peppermint-themed decorations between November 25 and January 8 as part of Window Wonderland. Additionally, downtown restaurants are taking part in the Peppermint Trail of Treats. Restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, bars and boutiques will feature peppermint specials throughout the season.

More than two dozen businesses are taking part in the Elf on the Shelf Adventure. Children of all ages can take part in the scavenger hunt beginning on November 25.

Regal Celebration of Lights is November 25 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., WDVX Holiday Ho-Ho Hoedown is the same day from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the WIVK Christmas Parade is on December 2 at 7 p.m.

Christmas at Chilowee is on December 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chilhowee Park. The tree on the park bandstand will be lit and there will be live music and other free activities.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” will be presented for free at the Tennessee Theatre on December 11 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Tour De Lights is December 16 at 7 p.m. starting at Market Square. The 10th annual holiday bike ride winds through downtown neighborhoods, including Fourth and Gill.
