Disney On Ice comes to Knoxville with new, empowering message

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Although the weather outside is far from frightful, things are getting a lot cooler at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

Disney On Ice! returns November 3-6 for their new show “Dream Big.” Tickets are available online or at the Civic Coliseum box office.

This year’s show has an empowering message for kids, as Disney shifts away from the “damsel in distress” to focus on princesses who dream big and go for what they want. The show features Ariel, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Belle as they learn about the power to make their own magic.

“I love that this show is not just about the girls,” said Bonard Muck, who plays Flynn in Rapunzel. “I know it’s all about the princesses, but one of my favorite sections is actually from Sleeping Beauty when Malecificent actually changes into a magnificent dragon and runs on the ice and spits fire.”

The performers say there is nothing like the look on kids’ faces when they come out in costume, but the show is fun for the whole family.

“I love that this is a collaboration of so many different stories. I mean some tell one or two or three, but we’ve got like eight or nine of them,” said Muck. “So we’ve got the classics to all the new guys, you know, Frozen and Tangled and things like that.”

The show took a year of planning to put together. Muck, who skates, with his wife who plays Rapunzel, says all of the hard work that went into the show was well worth it though.

“We love the music,” said Muck. “We actually had it played at our wedding a couple of years ago. So now that we skate to it every day, ever once in a while there is a small tear, but I love it!
