Smoky Mountain Winterfest kicks off winter fun

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – Smoky Mountain Winterfest starts this month. The celebration will feature light displays, unique shopping, shows, family attractions and more in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and other parts of Sevier County.

The event will take place from November 7 to February 2017. There will be new events this season including: a new production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” by Dollywood, the opening of Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies’ Discovery Center, Santa’s Safari at Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland and new attractions at The Island in Pigeon Forge.

Organizers say there will be more than 15 million lights along streets and on businesses in the region. Outdoor lovers can take apart in activities at Ober Gatlinburg and in the Great Smoky Mountains.

City facility and street closures

Because of the kickoff on Monday, November 7, the Sevierville Community Center, Civic Center, City Hall and police department records office will be closed that day.

The northbound lanes of Gary Wade Boulevard between Bruce Street and East main Street will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. All normally scheduled activities and classes at the community and civic centers will be cancelled on November 7.
