2016 winners for the 50th annual CMA Awards

Counry Music Awards celebrate 50 years with tribute to country music history

NASHVILLE (WATE) – The City of Nashville will once again host country music’s biggest night this Wednesday. It’s a milestone for the CMA Awards, marking 50 years, and to celebrate, this year’s theme is a tribute to country music history.

“The 50th Annual CMA Awards” air live Wednesday on WATE 6 On your Side. Country superstars Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will preside over the evening, returning as hosts for the ninth consecutive year.

Some big names are expected to be inside Bridgestone Arena, including Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill and Peyton Manning. Knoxville native Kelsea Ballerini will also be performing and she’s nominated for an award.

Country legend Dolly Parton will be honored with the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. Tennessee’s favorite daughter has received nine CMA Awards, was named “Entertainer of the Year” in 1978 and even hosted the award show in 1988.

It’s also a big night for Tennessee native Kenny Chesney. The four-time Entertainer of the Year will receive the “Pinnacle Award.” It’s considered the highest honor. The award has only been presented twice before to Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift.
