CROSSVILLE (WATE) – Three people were taken into custody after a high speed police chase in Roane and Cumberland counties early Wedensday morning.
Tennessee Highway Patrol says they got a call around 4 a.m. about a gold Dodge Charger on Interstate 40 westbound at mile marker 336 driving aggressively. A trooper made contact with the vehicle at the 317 exit as it was pulling into a shell station. The trooper said when he asked them for their rental agreement, they sped off, almost hitting his patrol car.
The trooper gave chase and requested assistance from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The suspects continued on U.S. Highway 127 and back onto I-40 going east. Troopers say the suspects started throwing items from the vehicle around mile marker 333. Troopers are still investigating what those items were.
Troopers called Roane County deputies who staged to help at mile markers 347 and 353. The suspects hit spike strips at mile marker 347 and took the exit. They bailed from the vehicle just off the exit and tried to run off, but troopers and Roane County deputies chased them down and took them into custody.
The suspects names have not been released. Troopers say the speed of the pursuit ranged from 98 MPH to 123 MPH.
