KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The University of Tennessee Volunteers are preparing for Saturday’s conference game after having a bye week.
The Vols will play South Carolina in Columbia. Unlike the Vols, the Gamecocks are unranked. UT remained at No. 18 in the AP’s Top 25 poll.
During their last game, UT loss to Alabama 49-10.
Head Coach Butch Jones said that going into the season he believed it would be the most competitive within the Southeastern Conference. “Most of the teams that win in this conference are mature football teams,” said Jones in a press conference last week. “It is a grind, the depth of your program will start to reveal itself.”
Jones said Monday that because of injury, the Vols would be playing without running back Alvin Kamara. Jones didn’t say what the injury was, but said he expects Kamara to return in the next couple of weeks.
Coach Jones also said there is a good possibility linebacker Darrin Kirkland, Jr. may return for the South Carolina game after missing five straight for a high ankle sprain.
Cornerback Malik Foreman is practicing this week after missing one game and Jones says he is confident Cam Sutton will return soon from a fractured ankle.
