Knox County student hit while trying to get on bus, SUV driver cited

KNOXVILLE (WATE)- Knox County Schools said a Karns High School student was hit while attempting to get on a bus.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office said the 14-year-old was hit by a SUV around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning on Ball Road near Oak Ridge Highway. Witnesses told deputies that the bus had stopped and had its stop sign deployed. The teen was walking across the street around 15 seconds after the bus arrived. The SUV ran the stop sign, according to KCSO.

The teenager was taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center and is believed to have head injuries.

The SUV driver was cited for disregarding the stop sign.
