KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The Knox County District Attorney’s office said a man received multiple convictions after he struck two fans leaving the University of Tennessee football game.
Gordon Shane Johnson, 36, was convicted of aggravated assault, assault and evading arrest. His sentencing is scheduled for December 2.
The Knox County District Attorney’s office said as fans were exiting the stadium, Johnson was in the parking lot yelling. When one person told Johnson to calm down, the district attorney’s office said he punched them and a second person in the nose.
Officer Anthony Rickmany, who was handling security at the game, said he saw the assault and ordered Johnson to stop. He said Johnson ran into a corner.
The victim who was punched in the nose required facial reconstruction surgery to install several plates and screws, according to the district attorney’s office. They also said the victim’s jaw was wired shut for five weeks.
The district attorney’s office said since aggravated assault is a class D felony, they expect Johnson to face a punishment of 2-5 years in prison.
