MARYVILLE (WATE) – Touted as one of the best restaurants in East Tennessee, a bakery in Maryville is closing its doors.
Foothills Milling Bakery said they closed on Monday and thanked their loyal patrons. The Maryville hot-spot, located at 1420 E. Broadway opened two years ago.
Comments on Foothills Milling Bakery’s Facebook paged ranged from shock to disbelief. Customers said they didn’t understand why the restaurant had closed, because it had great food and was always packed.
“Basically the only place I can get a gluten free sandwich in this town. Goodbye to my favorite lunch stop,” writes Morgan Yates. “This is sad! There are not enough places like this in Maryville! Good homemade, family owned food,” writes Branda Martell.
Whitney Vaughan co-owner of Foothills Milling Restaurant said she and her family dreamed of opening a bakery where they could make all of the breads and desserts for the restaurants. The bakery boasted one-of-a-kind sandwiches like fried bologna with truffle butter and roast beef with blue cheese and fried onions, of course all on their homemade breads.
WATE 6 On Your Side reached out to Foothills Milling Bakery to find out why they made the decision to close, but have not received a response.
