East Tennessee communities collect unused, unwanted prescription drugs

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Communities around East Tennessee are hosting drug take-back events this Saturday.

The Drug Enforcement Agency is partnering with local law enforcement around the country to help prevent pill abuse and theft by allowing people a safe opportunity to rid their homes of expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

During April’s Drug Take Back Day, Americans turned in over 447 tons of prescription drugs at almost 5,400 locations. The DEA says medicines that linger in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse.
