Man dies after accidental explosion at Knox County business

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Vanderbilt Medical Center confirms a mechanic who was severely burned in what deputies say was an accidental explosion at an East Knox County trucking company has died.

The incident was reported around 2 a.m. Monday at R&L Carriers, 5004 N. National Drive. The explosi9on and fire happened in the mechanical shop and destroyed a semi truck and a work truck.

A mechanic, Joe Mack, 43, was taken to Vanderbilt Burn Center for severe burns. A spokesperson says he died Monday evening.

The investigation is ongoing.
