KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Two men wanted for a Thursday morning carjacking in Knoxville were arrested this weekend after a vehicle pursuit in Chattanooga.
Brandon Moates, 20, and Elija Springs, 21, were arrested separately. Police had been called to a reported carjacking on Merchants Drive Thursday morning around 7:15 a.m. Two suspects approached the male victim and demanded his Nissan pickup truck at gunpoint.
Knoxville Police Department investigators developed information that resulted in Chattanooga police identifying them as Moates and Springs. Information was then distributed to officers in Chattanooga.

On Friday, a Chattanooga Police Department officer was responding to another call when he spotted the stolen truck. Moates and his passenger saw the officer and sped off. After a lengthy chase, Moates crashed the Nissan into another vehicle and both of them ran.
Moates was located at a Chattanooga home on Sunday and he was arrested. He is being held in Chattanooga without bond on multiple charges.
Springs was arrested Friday evening at a home in Chattanooga after he was identified as the second suspect in the carjacking.. He was not the passenger in the truck during the pursuit. He has been transported back to Knoxville and is being held on $75,000 bond.
Chattanooga police say both Moates and Springs are classified as validated gang members.
