KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Two East Tennessee malls are among the growing number of retailers that have announced they will not be open on Thanksgiving.

Over the last several years, Black Friday shopping has begun earlier and earlier, with many stores opening on Thanksgiving. Now a number of stores have said they will not open on the holiday, some specifying they want their employees to have time with their families.

Management of Foothills Mall in Maryville and College Square Mall in Morristown posted an open letter on their websites from CEO Stephen Lebovitz saying they would not be open on Thanksgiving so shoppers and workers could spend Thanksgiving with loved ones. The malls will open on the day after Thanksgiving at 6 a.m.
