WHITESBURG (WATE) – Three people are charged with kidnapping a Bristol, Virginia, man and holding him against his will at their home in Hamblen County.
Kris Eidson, Veronica Raines Dreadlin and Michael Cufone were each charged with especially aggravated kidnapping, extortion, fraudulent use of a credit card, and assault.
Hamblen County deputies say Eidson and Dreadlin claimed they were holding Matthew Kess at a home in Whitesburg because he had stolen Eidson’s wallet and $500. Eventually, Cufone came to the home and helped Eidson and Dreadlin punch, kick and knee Kess, even threatening to kill him at one point if he didn’t confess to taking Eidson’s wallet.
At one point, Dreadlin left the home to try to get money from several different credit and debit cards that belonged to the victim. After several hours, Kess was able to talk the suspects into taking him to Walmart to retrieve cash. Eidson allowed another person to take Kess to Walmart and at that point, he slipped a note to a cashier saying to call police.
During the investigation, Hamblen County deputies searched the Hyatt Lane home and found Eidson was in possession of Schedule II, Schedule IV, and Schedule VI drugs. Each of the suspects is being held on $300,000 bond.
