VFL Deon Grant named to 2016 SEC Legends class

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WATE) – Former University of Tennessee football player Deon Grant was named to the 2016 Southeastern Conference Football Legends class.

The former defensive back joins 13 other former SEC players who added to the history of their alma maters. The class includes Heisman Trophy winner, All-Americans, All-SEC selections, Academic All-Americans and record holders.

Grant played for the Vols from 1997-1999. He had 14 interceptions and 141 tackles. He led the team to the 1998 BCS National Championship and he was the last Vol to intercept three passes in a game.

He was selected in the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers. While playing for the New York Giants, he helped the team win over the Patriots during Super Bowl XLVI.

The class will be honored during the SEC Legends Dinner on Dec 2 and at the SEC Football Championship Game at the Georgia Dome on Dec. 3.
