COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police arrested a man who was fleeing on a motorcycle after allegedly robbing a Cookeville bank on Thursday.
It happened at the Putnam First Mercantile Bank on 10th Street around 4 p.m.
The Cookeville Police Department reported a man fled from the bank on a motorcycle shortly before a sergeant spotted a bike matching the description of the suspect.
The suspect reportedly increased his speed and refused to stop for the officer before leading him on a brief pursuit, according to Cookeville police.
During the chase, police reported the suspect’s jacket became entangled in the rear wheel of the motorcycle and caused the rider to lose control and crash on Fisk Road at Sixth Street.
According to police, Howard Bohannon, 43, attempted to run from the crash on foot but was quickly overtaken and placed into police custody.
Bohannon was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear issued by the Putnam County General Sessions Court. He is also being held for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is assisting with the bank robbery investigation by the Cookeville Police Department.
