SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – A restaurant was completely destroyed after an early morning fire.
Firefighters said the fire started around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fat Tony’s Roadhouse at 2657 Newport Highway in Sevierville. Nathaniel Mitchell with the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department says the fire started inside the kitchen, but they’re still unsure what caused the fire.
There was no one inside the building when the fire started. Crews were able to contain the fire, but say the building is a total loss.
The owner of Fat Tony’s Roadhouse said he is devastated by the loss. He said he envisioned himself retiring at the restaurant.
Carolyn Williamson, who owns the Chubby’s Deli right next door, said the fire was frightening. Williamson she hates this happened especially since business was booming at the roadhouse.
“We didn’t know if it was our business or somebody else’s, it was very scary so my husband jumps up and runs put here and we find out it’s Fat Tony’s buring down not ours,” said Williamson. “He a lot of effort and money into making a business and you see how fast it just goes so its sad,” said Williamson. “He went in and remodeled the whole place, put a bar up stairs, I mean it was really nice.”
