KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Young Williams Animal Center is celebrating National Dogs in Politics day by offering adoption discounts from September 23 to 25.
The adoption fees for all adult and senior dogs and cats, which the center jokingly refers to a “Demo-cats” and “Re-pup-licans,” will be reduced to $20 this weekend. The center says adult and senior animals are often overlooked by adopters in favor of younger pets. Kittens are included in the special, though, because the shelter is housing an excess amount from the summer breeding months.
The reduced adoption fee includes a veterinary exam, spay/neuter surgery, some standard vaccinations, a microchip with registration and more. The adoption special is good at both the Young Williams Animal Center on Division Street and the Animal Village on Kingston Pike. Both facilities will be open from noon to 6 p.m.
National Dogs in Politics Day is celebrated each year on September 23, the anniversary of Richard Nixon’s 1952 “Checkers speech,” in which he referenced the family dog.
