NEWPORT (WATE) – A man drowned Monday night in the Pigeon River in Newport.
Sheriff Armando Fontes says the Hispanic male drowned in about six and a half feet of water. Witnesses said he had been swimming and was potentially intoxicated.
Officials have not released the man’s name pending family notification. No other information has been released at this time.
Two other men drowned this summer in the Pigeon River in Newport. James Clay “Jim” Self’s body was found in the river in June after he drowned while fishing. A 19-year-old Hispanic male was swept away in the Pigeon River in July. He was in Tennessee doing work on a farm. He and a friend decided to get in the river to cool off when the incident happened.
