JACKSBORO (WATE) – A substitute teacher with Campbell County Schools was indicted by a grand jury on several counts of statutory rape and statutory rape by an authority figure.
The Campbell County Sheriff’s Office said they believe Karlie Brooke Taylor engaged in sexual acts with a minor sometime between February-March of 2016. At the time, Taylor was believed to be at least four years older than the victim.
Campbell County Director of Schools Larry Nidiffer said Taylor was a substitute teacher during the 2015-2016 school year. He said he taught at several different schools including Valley View Elementary, LaFollette Elementary and maybe Campbell County Comprehensive High School.
Nidiffer said he heard Taylor may have been involved with students after school and off campus, so he took her off the substitute teacher list. He said he talked to the sheriff’s office, but they were already investigating. He said substitute teachers have to pass a background check and drug test.
Taylor is out on a $5,000 bond.
