DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Food trucks and merchants lined the streets near Durham North Carolina’s Central Park on Saturday afternoon.
Beside them was a small ice cream booth that stood out.
One local woman has worked to organize an effort to pass along some kindness to others.
By pledging to do at least one act of kindness, people received a free ice cream sandwich or ice pop.
Carrie McQuaid said she wanted to launch the effort to counter negativity in the world. She tried to first partner with several retailers and even ice cream trucks, but she was met with push back.
That’s why she took matters into her own hands and set up shop at the park.
“If five people walk away from here and they do five acts of kindness that’s five more acts of kindness in the world…that wouldn’t happen if I wouldn’t come out here,” she explained. “For me, it’s about spreading kindness as far as I can.”
McQuaid said she’ll keep up her mission as long as she can.
