WASHINGTON COUNTY (WJHL) – Two Daniel Boone High School students were involved in a crash that killed one of them and injured the other.
Washington County School Director of Schools Kimber Halliburton says the student killed was Kaylee Rabun, a junior at Daniel Boone.
Ryan Sanders was injured in the crash and transported to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.
Halliburton said the crash happened in Sevierville Saturday.
A preliminary report from Tennessee Highway Patrol said the car in which Sanders and Rabun were traveling in lost control on Interstate 81 in Morristown.
THP said the vehicle veered off the left side of the road and was partially in the median when the driver veered back and over corrected.
The vehicle rolled over several times before it stopped on the right side of the road.
THP did not identify the driver of the vehicle but did say it was a 17 year old male.
Halliburton said teachers, students and family members flooded Johnson City Medical Center Saturday to show their support for Sanders.
Halliburton said Rabun was a star volleyball player at Daniel Boone High School and Sanders plays football there as well.
Halliburton said she spoke with Sanders’ father Saturday night to tell him the community is supporting them.
She said she had been flooded with calls all day of people wanting to wish the best to the families of the students.
A vigil is being planned.
Halliburton said additional counselors will be at Daniel Boone High School on Monday.
