KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Runners from all around the Southeast are preparing to participate in The Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon in Townsend. More than 2.300 runners are expected to take part in the run. There will also be a 5k. Or you can sign up for the “Black Bear Double,” allowing you to run in both the Friday 5K and the Saturday Half Marathon.
“We are thrilled by the abundance of entries for this year’s event,” said race President and Founder Salem Stanley. “The addition of the 5K has made this an even more popular race weekend, and we look forward to showcasing Blount County’s beauty for hundreds of new and returning participants.”
There will also be three club hike at Chimney Tops, Charlie’s Bunion and Mount LeConte. If you are able to complete all three hikes within 72 hours, you will win a 50 percent discount on registration for next year’s event.
