CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A Tennessee man is in custody after police say he refused to stop for a police officer, crashed his car and fled, leaving behind his 7-year-old daughter.

The Leaf-Chronicle reports the incident happened Wednesday in Clarksville. According to an arrest warrant, an officer pulled Wilfredo Valcarcel Ortiz over for a brake lights infraction. As the officer approached, Valcarcel Ortiz sped away, the arrest warrant states. The 26-year-old drove into a park where the car flipped over and crashed. A witness saw Valcarcel Ortiz and a girl exit the vehicle. Then, he fled, ditching the girl, who was identified as his daughter.
