COUNCE, Tenn. (AP) — Authorities say a man involved in a shootout with U.S. marshals in southwest Tennessee has died.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Leslie Earhart was quoted by The Jackson Sun as saying the man was fatally shot by U.S. marshals as they joined local law officers in seeking to arrest the man Monday in the community of Counce, southwest of Memphis.
Earhart says the man opened fire on officers as they sought to serve a warrant. Earthart says marshals returned fire, striking the man, who later died. No officers were hurt.
Authorities haven’t identified the man or the officers and races of those involved. Police say two other men were arrested during the incident, which also involved a car chase.
One neighbor said she heard dozens of gunshots Monday afternoon.
