Police arrest wanted man near Roane, Rhea county line

ROCKWOOD (WATE) – The Roane County Sheriff’s Office says a man they say is a known thief and habitual criminal is in custody after a 6-hour pursuit near the Rhea County line.

Officers captured David Paul Wicks, 36, in a wooded area near Waldo Road in Rockwood. K-9 tracking dogs from Knox and Rhea counties helped in the search, as did a helicopter from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Wicks has outstanding warrants from Cumberland County for theft and he is also wanted for several traffic offenses and other criminal violations after he fled from officers in Rockwood on July 20.

Wicks has a long criminal history in Roane County including driving violations, theft, evading arrest, aggravated assault and probation violation.
