Cocke County man arrested for growing marijuana

DEL RIO (WATE) – A Cocke County man was arrested Tuesday after he was found the growing marijuana at his home during a flyover operation.

Connie Ray Jones, 56, is charged with possession of Schedule VI drugs, 12 counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and cultivation of Schedule VI drugs. He was released from jail on $75,000 bond.

Sheriff Armando Fontes says during a flyover of Jones’ Dry Fork Road home, he was seen coming out of the residence and pulling plants out of pots. Ground officers made contact with Jones, and found him hiding in the woods in a marijuana patch on his property.

Officers found 12 firearms in the home with ammunition. He admitted the plants, guns and ammunition were his. Officers also found three bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

Jones has a felony conviction for possession of marijuana and a long criminal history including drug charges and evading arrest.
