ALCOA (WATE) – A woman in Blount County was charged after a very young child was found walking in the middle of the street at around 2:30 a.m. in the morning.
Alice Marie Henry, 23, was charged with felony child abuse and neglect. She was arrested nearly 11 hours after the child was found and about .35 miles away at an address on Mayfield Lane in Louisville.
A customer told police she was leaving the parking lot Wednesday at a Pilot Gas Station off of Hawks Landing Drive when she spotted a child in the middle of Topside Road waving his arms. The woman said the child said he was looking for his mommy and his feet hurt. She took the child inside the gas station and asked the clerk to call police.
Officer Eric Long with the Alcoa Police Department said he talked with child, who said he had been walking for a while, was four and looking for his mommy. Officer Long said he noticed the child was walking with a limp. After examining his feet he said he found two large blisters on the bottom of both heels.
The child could not give the name or address of a family member. The Department of Child Services was called.
