TAZEWELL (WATE) – A police officer with the city of Tazewell is a medical miracle. Doctors told him they don’t know why he’s still alive, but he does. He says protecting the community is his calling.
With the help of Officer Larry Mozingo’s daughter Tiffany Combs, other family members and fellow officers, we were able to surprise him with our WATE 6 On Your Side Hero award.
Officer Mozingo proudly wears his badge, dedicated to his community. He has almost fully recovered after having open heart surgery, followed by a stroke, then nerve damage that has temporarily affected his vision in one eye. All of this happened just over the past several months.
“I put forth the best effort I can out here every day that I work and it’s not just working but anytime there’s an opportunity I try to help,” said Mozingo.
“He really deserves it. He’s been through so much and he still just works so hard for all of us every day,” said Combs.
“He’s surprised, and he’s humble. Very grateful. I could tell by his look,” said his wife Nickie Mozingo.
Officer Mozingo has also been awarded by Mothers Against Drunk Driving for going above and beyond in getting impaired drivers off our streets.
