KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – A $31 million luxury apartment complex is on its way to Kingsport. A private developer is building “Town Park Lofts” at the corner of Sullivan St. and Clinchfield St.
“This is a game changer for our city,” Kingsport Mayor John Clark.
The complex is set to fit 263 units with rent ranging from $900 to $1300 monthly. The complex will include a gated entrance, a pool and a clubhouse among other things.
“We have been a little slow with new apartment developments so we are catching up and this is one great example,” Mayor Clark said.
Mayor Clark has a vision for the city, to make it the premiere city in Northeast Tennessee to live, work and raise a family as the city continues to try and attract and retain millenials.
“It’s really designed for the young professional and the millenials and also the couples without kids who are empty nesters that really want to enjoy the urban lifestyle.”
However, businesses neighboring the planned site are hoping they aren’t affected.
“If we’re forced to move from here that could affect the people we are able to help. We sell basically enough to keep the doors open and our main goal is to get it to people who need it,” Julie Lifford of Treasures Resale Store said.
Mayor Clark says they have spoken to the businesses in the area but he is still unsure if they will relocate or stay as this new project gets underway.
Clark hopes that growth in Kingsport will help keep taxes low and among the lowest in the Tri-Cities
