SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – A Sevier County grand jury has indicted a man on vehicular homicide, DUI, drug possession and other charges after two women were killed and a third was injured last December in a car crash.
Ronnie Pershing Grantham Jr. is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, three counts of vehicular assault, two counts of possession of Schedule II controlled substance, one count of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, one count of driving on a suspended or revoked license, one count of DUI, one count of disregarding a traffic signal, one count of window tint violation, one count of failure to use due care and three counts of failure to yield with death.

The crash was reported on December 3 at the La Quinta Inn at the intersection of Huffaker Road and Winfield Dunn Parkway/Highway 66.
A witness told officers a Dodge pick-up truck, driven by Grantham, ran a red light and hit a Chevrolet carrying three people. The driver of the Chervrolet, later identified as Tammy Short, 53, of Newport, and a front seat passenger, Jeanette Hurst, 54, of Sevier County, were both killed upon impact, according to police.
A third passenger, Melissa Carnal, 30, was taken by Lifestar to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Grantham has been released from jail on bond.
