PIGEON FORGE (WATE) – Dozens of people attended a groundbreaking ceremony July 12 at Country Cascades in Pigeon Forge for its newest expansion project.
The Collier family invested $12 million in a new water park and resort on Sharon Drive, the family’s largest investment to date.
“We think this is a niche that isn’t being served right now,” Phillip “Don” Collier said. “The economy, we think, has finally recovered to the point to the point where people are finally traveling again and the demand is up so we want to meet that demand.”
Investors and contractors broke ground on what will become a resort called “The Summit” featuring 98 luxury guest rooms as well as Cascades Outdoor Water Park, a 30,000 square feet facility.
“Now is the time that more and more people are traveling to our area and are looking for more and more things to do,” Kay Collier-Pittman said. “They still need that down time where they can just spend the day at the hotel and this gives the family plenty to do as they’re doing the down time.”
The Collier’s said they have had past success with similar projects outside Pigeon Forge and were waiting for the right time to answer the demand at home.
“We built a condo project in Sevierville that had a large water park facility in it, and it went so well that we have been waiting for the opportunity to duplicate it in Pigeon Forge,” Don Collier said.
The goal of the project, the Collier’s say, is to create a modern-luxury experience for families, while still maintaining that “Smokey Mountain charm. The family said the new real-estate project will appeal to people who want to enjoy family time and a few thrills too.
“Just seeing the families have fun, going down the slide… part of it’s going to be a translucent slide that goes over where people go in to register, and I just think it will be so cool to see people sliding down as you pull in with your family,” Collier-Pittman said.
The Summit Tower and Cascades Outdoor Water Park is expected to open on Memorial Day weekend next year.
