Bristol shooting suspect indicted by grand jury

JOHNSON CITY (WATE) – A Bristol man was indicted by a Sullivan County grand jury after a shooting spree in the East Tennessee town last week.

Lakeem Keon Scott, 37, faces charges for first degree murder, attempted first degree murder and employing a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says Scott randomly shot people on Volunteer Parkway during the early morning hours of July 7. A Days Inn clerk was shot through the window at 2:20 a.m. The suspect later shot at vehicles along the roadway.

Victims include David Whitman Davis, Kathy Fleenor, Harold Fleener, Deborah Watts, Officer Matthew Cousins, Officer Johnathan Forbes and Officer Ronald Cowan.

Police officers exchanged gunfire with Scott. Scott was shot and transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was later transferred to the Sullivan County Jail.

He remains in jail on a $500,000 bond.
